Today I tried to put the carburetor back in. In order to get it to fit, I had to first remove the air filter and air intake, as well as removing the battery housing and connecting because the were in the way. It became apparent that the left and right outputs of the carburetor were farther apart than they are on the engine. Obviously this is a problem because they need to connect securely, and in this position they won't connect at all.
